Dual Optical Energy for Pain Relief
Dual Optical energy is a combination of Infrared and Red Light technology. Though this combined energy technology is new, its advantages are clear. Red light therapy works on the red light frequency. It can treat inflammation, both chronic and temporary, and is therefore useful in treating sports injuries. Infrared light works on a spectrum invisible to the human eye, but penetrates deeper than light on the visible spectrum. This means it can treat pain indicators relating to deep muscle tissue, bones and joints.
By combining both types of light a light therapy device can treat more types of pain.

How Dual Optical Energy Works
Red light is able to penetrate the skin because it is not blocked by blood or water to the extent that the light on the other wavelengths is. Red light is on the visible light spectrum; because of that it has a shallow penetration depth. Red light can penetrate the skin 8 to 10 mm.
Once the body absorbs the red light energy it is converted into cellular energy. This causes increased blood circulation, the formation of new capillaries and a reduction in inflammation.
Infrared light works by penetrating the skin where it is absorbed by the mitochondria of the cell. This increases the cell’s metabolism which stimulates healing in muscle, bone, skin and subcutaneous tissue.
What Types of Pain Can Dual Optical Energy Treat?
Because dual optical energy combines Red and Infrared Light Therapies it can treat more types of pain:
- Osteoarthritis & Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Chronic Neck Pain
- Chronic Back Pain
- Tendon Inflammation (Tennis Elbow, Achilles Tendon Inflammation, etc.)
- Other Sport’s Related Injuries
Clinical Studies
The efficacy of Infrared light therapy for the treatment of pain has been proven in various clinical studies:
The effect of two phototherapy protocols on pain control in orthodontic procedure: a preliminary clinical study, Lasers in Medical Science
Esper MA, Nicolau RA, Arisawa EA
This study looked at the efficacy of combining two light therapy types for pain control.
Efficacy of high-intensity laser therapy in the treatment of chronic neck pain: a randomized double-blind placebo-control trial, Lasers in Medical Science
Alayat MS, Mohamed AA, Helal OF, Khaled OA
This clinical trial tested the efficacy of low level red light lasers on chronic neck pain.
Infrared therapy for chronic low back pain: A randomized, controlled trial, Pain Research and Management
George D Gale, MBBS FRCA FRCPC DAAPM, Peter J Rothbart, MD FRCPC, and Ye Li
The purpose of this study was to determine whether infrared light therapy could reduce chronic low back pain.
